Everyone knows the best thing about Berlin is the spätes. For those who don’t know, a späte is an off-licence where you can buy alcohol and then drink it on seats outside – in other words there’s a BYOB bar on every corner. Obviously this is all anyone does all summer and there is no better way of spending your time.

The second best thing about Berlin is the kneipes, which is Deutsch for pub. These do not resemble edgy, candle-lit Kreuzberg bars where you can only sit on crates and drinks are served in obscure vessels. A kneipe is unpretentious and usually has a pool table, a juke box, tinsel or other weird decor and a mad landlord/lady who will drink as much as you do, if not more.
